HEALING

It is not God’s will for us to suffer and to live with sickness and disease. Because of the fall of man in the Garden of Eden we experience sin and sickness, healing is possible through God’s Word and Jesus death and resurrection.

Jesus came that we might have life, and have it more abundantly.

(John 10:10)

Without faith it is impossible to please [praise] God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe He exists and that He rewards [heals and saves] those who earnestly seek Him.

(Hebrews 11:6)

Emotional

When our souls are wounded, we cannot experience life clearly. When we are broken-hearted, we will experience every life event through a distorted filter.

Jesus reads from the prophet Isaiah saying He (Jesus) is has come to fulfill the prophecy

(Isaiah 61:1)

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised

(Luke 4:18)

Mental

While Jesus directly healed people who were considered mentally ill, He also recognized demonic control in others and cast the demons out.

When it was evening, after sunset, they brought to Him all who were ill or possessed by demons. The whole town was gathered at the door. He cured many who were sick with various diseases, and he drove out many demons, not permitting them to speak because they knew Him.

(Mark 1:32-34)

He was driving out a demon that was mute, and when the demon had gone out, the mute person spoke and the crowds were amazed. (Luke 11:14)

Physical

Jesus healed people who were physically ill. Scriptures include many examples of His healing including His healing works of ophthalmology (opening the eyes of the blind), ENT (curing the deaf), dermatology (healing leprosy), rehabilitation (curing paralysis), hand surgery (healing a withered hand), plastics and reconstruction (repairing a severed ear), neurology (treating a boy with convulsions), critical care (saving the slave of a centurion who was about to die) and more.

When Jesus came into Peter’s home, He saw his mother-in-law lying sick in bed with a fever. And He touched her hand, and the fever left her; and she got up and waited on Him. Now when evening came, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed; and He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were ill. This happened so that what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet would be fulfilled: “He Himself took our illnesses and carried away our diseases.” (Matthew 8:14-17)

Spiritual

Our human nature is for us to be focused on and want earthly healing. From God’s perspective our spiritual healing is always our most important healing. Spiritual healing is about the forgiveness of our sins (both big and small) and our Faith. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, evidence of things not seen.

Scripture makes distinct connections between sin and physical sickness. An illness may be the product of a specific sin or a series of sins committed over many years or a lifetime. Sin is so subtle that humans focused on worldly things will examine causes of sickness and may never consider sin as the cause.

Biblical stories that make the connection between our faith and spiritual healing being necessary for physical healing include the bleeding woman (Matthew 9:20-22), the blind man (Mark 10: 46-52),  the paralytic (John 5:8-14) and the healing of the lepers (Luke 17:11-19) which all say “[your] faith has healed you.”
